Fantasy, freedom, and hard work sum up the life of Marilú Marini, whom Sandrine Dumas filmed between France and Argentina from 2016 to 2022. The portrait of an actress who, at over 80, is still driven by the need to be on stage. To film Marilú is to decipher a life forged by labor, exile, friendship, and the passage of time. A journey in the company of a woman who summons the joie de vivre without ever giving up.
Sandrine Dumas combines her work in film with her work in theater, both as an actress and as a director. She has directed a feature film documentary, Nostos, a feature fiction film, Bring Me Back Home, and two short films. As an actress, she worked with Ermanno Olmi, Milos Forman, Claire Denis, Krystof Kieslowski, Robert Altman, Guillaume Nicloux, and Giacomo Campiotti, among others. She created a production company Pio & co, to develop her projects but also to promote and coproduce genuine directors’ voices such as Claire Simon, Mia Hansen Løve, Marina de Van, and Lucrecia Martel.
